Tennis court conversion

Converting a tennis court to padel

An existing tennis court can often become a padel court, and the same footprint can hold a pickleball court beside it. What it takes depends on what the court is built from and its condition. We've been building tennis courts in New England since 1972.

What fits

One padel court and one pickleball court

What a tennis court can hold

One tennis court can be converted to one padel court and one pickleball court on the existing court base. Two padel courts don't fit on one standard tennis court.

Why the surface matters

Hard courts and clay courts aren't stable enough to carry a padel court on their own, so they need added foundations. On an asphalt court, we typically cut a perimeter beam into the existing surface to carry the court.

How it works

From tennis court to padel

  1. Planning call

A free 15-minute Zoom. Tell us about the court, its surface and its condition, and you'll leave with preliminary pricing and a realistic timeline.

  2. Site visit

Once scope is agreed, we look at the court's construction and condition to see what's needed.

  3. Design

A foundation design for the padel court you choose, engineered to ASCE 7 for the wind loads at your site.

  4. Build

Foundation work, court installation and lighting, plus the pickleball court if it's part of the plan.

Questions

About tennis court conversions

Can I convert my tennis court to a padel court?

Often, yes, with some modification. It depends on what the court was built from and its condition. A site visit tells us what's needed.

How many padel courts fit on a tennis court?

One. Two padel courts don't fit on one standard tennis court. One tennis court can be converted to one padel court and one pickleball court on the existing court base.

Can a padel court go straight onto a hard court or clay court?

No. Hard courts and clay courts aren't stable enough to carry a padel court without added foundations. On an asphalt court, we typically cut a perimeter beam into the existing surface.

Is converting a tennis court cheaper than building new?

It can be, because the court base is already there. The foundation work still has to be designed for the padel court and the wind loads at your site. See what drives the cost.

Do you build pickleball and tennis courts too?

Yes. Through our parent company, Cape and Island Tennis & Track, we also build tennis courts, pickleball courts and running tracks, so a multi-court project can stay with one builder.
